I am so excited to announce that my “Self Portrait in Green Scrubs” will be on display as part of the first Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year Exhibition at Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park from Saturday 19th February 2022 – Sunday 5th June 2022!

I painted my Self Portrait in Green Scrubs in 2017 and it became my ticket to participate in the 2018 series of Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year. My participation in the programme has been life changing and I am very grateful to Portrait Artist of the Year judge and curator Kathleen Soriano for its inclusion in this exhibition.

It’s a highly personal self portrait, painted when I was a lot more junior in my orthopaedic training and I feel I have come developed personally and professionally in terms of surgery and art since then!

Kathleen Soriano, Judge on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year and Curator of the Exhibition

Compton Verney writes:

This commemorative exhibition celebrates eight years of SkyArts’ most successful tv series – Portrait Artist of the Year. Curated by one of the programme’s guest judges, Kathleen Soriano, Portrait Artist of the Year will feature over 120 works of art selected from the more than 1,000 artists who have taken part over the years. Showcasing the range of styles, media and approaches taken to portraiture, the exhibition will consider past winners and their prize commissions for major museums and galleries, as well as examining how the genre of portraiture has been tested through the range of diverse and personal styles that have been revealed. These varied approaches to the broad range of celebrity sitters, from Kim Cattrell to Stanley Tucci, Rick Wakeman to Nile Rodgers, Bernardine Evaristo to John Cooper Clark, Michaela Coel to Zandra Rhodes, and from Melvyn Bragg to Graham Norton, will go some way to argue that figurative art and portraiture are very much alive and well today.

“My participation on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year was life-changing for me as an artist”
